Please somebody help
how the hell do you get to the starter relay on a 1993 flstn. There's alot of crap in the way. Do I have to remove the oil tank and if so how the hell do i do this. My clymer service manual doesn't tell me crap. I need to check the relay and i would hate to have to take it to my mechanic for something i can do myself. But then again, i don't feel like taking the entire bike apart to get to this damn relay. It's located under the batter bolted to the rear fender guard. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Disconnect the battery before you try to remove it.
If it is on the splash pan, use a screwdriver to pry it out of the spring holder. Pull it toward you as far as the wires will allow and disconnect the wires.
Connect the wires to the new relay. Put it back in by pressing it back into the spring holder.

I'm assuming by splash pan your referring to what the battery sits on. I wish it was that easy. It's located underneath the 'splash pan' mounted on plastic guard over the rear tire(don't know technical term for this). Taking of this guard would be a real pain in the a--. Why don't the make the relay more accessbile. Any other suggestions?

I'm referring to the curved piece of plastic from the fender to the frame that covers the front of the tire. A small relay is usually located there.
To remove the oil tank:
Remove the battery.
Remove the two bolts that are at the rear of the battery box.
Remove the nut from the rubber isolator on both sides.
Wiggle the tank tabs loose from the isolator studs.
Slide the tank with the hoses still attached as far to the right as you can. Or far enough to reach the relay.
If there isn't enough slack in the lines, pinch them off so they don't leak and remove the lines from the oil pump. Be sure to mark the location of the lines.
Can you pull the plug from the relay? If so pull it out far enough to plug in a good relay. If that works zip tie the new relay to the bike and leave the old one in place.
