04 fatboy fuel problem
I have a n 04 fat boy with 2500 miles that i just bought. The guy I got it from said it sat for about a year. Well my 1st day out riding it the gauge got down into the red and it started to run like crap i could barley keep it running and then it would die on me when i would come to a stop. Once i started it back up it was fine, but once i would start to cruise again and come back to a stop it would just die and run like crap. I took it home cause i noticed when i put gas in it for the 1st time there was a lot of build up around the fille area, so i pulled the tank off and cleaned everything out to include the lines. Now that has all been done the problem remains. Everytime it gets to a 1/4 of a tank where the red is it does this .... EVERYTIME. I have a friend and he said that his father had the same problem and it had something to do with the pick up line or something to that effect. Just wondering if anyone might be able to help so that i dont go broke trying to get HD to fix it.
Thanks Jimmy

I think you have a pin hole in the pressure line in side the tank.

but if that was the case would it not just do it all the time cause it will sit there and idle just fine all day at that point.. it is only when i take off and am rididng then pulling in the clutch to come to a stop. I would think a pin hole would do it at all time not just during certian points.. I dont know you tell me.

I've got an '04 superglide, and it just stared doing the exact same thing! I thought it might be water and cleaned out the tank, as well as changed the fuel filter in the tank, and it still does the same thing! I also tried injector cleaner. I was wondering if it isn't a MAP thing or maybe the ECM or one of the sensors.

Fuel line is chaffed.....
Without starting the bike, turn on the power and lay your ear to the tank (Left Side), then switch the run switch on... you will hear the pump spool up, and you might hear the pressure bleed off as a spraying inside the tank...
The only other way to test it is to either open up the tank and energize the pump or us a pressure gauge to watch the pressure bleed off....
The delphi system requires 55-60 psi as a constant, with NO bleed off within the first 10 minutes...
