Default Code U1097

I know the code is "Loss of Speedometer Serial data EFI"

What does it mean??????

Just before I crank the bike, I waite for the engine lite to go out and then crank. After the bike starts up the engine lite comes on for a few seconds and goes out. I pulled up the codes and it gave me the U1097 in the first two places.

Thanks

I forgot to mention a couple of days ago it popped the acc. fuse twice. Still don't know why. Could this be why the codes come up??

Default codes

On my 2006 streeglide now and then the key light comes on and the speedo and tach stop working is this similar to what you are experiencing? And how do you check your codes?

Turn your run/stop switch on. depress your odometer reset button and turn your ignition switch on.This will bring up PSSPt in the trip meter window.When each letter is flashing, press and hold the button down to show code or show none.

P=ECM/ICM(electronic control module [EFI]/ignition control module[carbureted]
S=TSM/TSSM(turn signal/turn signal security modual)
SP=speedometer
T=tachometer

I blew an ECM and a fuel pump fuse at about 80 mph. Bike popped and just died. Among other codes, I had this same one. Replaced the fuses, reset the codes, never happened again. I know the fuses blew because of my sourcommander, glad to chuck that thing.

It might have something to do with the speed sensor (VSS). As for blowing the fuses, check the wiring right at the speed sensor to make sure they are not chaffing on something. I recently was blowing my ACC fuse every other minute and finally found the the wiring to the rear brake light switch was rubbing against the bolt for the exhaust at the tranny mounting bracket.

That may be the problem. I just checked my code this evening and had U1097. I also have blown the acc fuse on several occasions over the last week. Mine was caused by a turn signal wire getting pinched between the fork tube and the frame. Every time I made a full lock right turn, like when turning the bike around, I would blow the fuse and my blinkers and tail light would stop working

Default Wiring

I had an issue on my 08 FLHTC of the (bus er) code and no right signal, there were 10 different codes including the one you have. I found a wire bundle that sat on top of the radio near the back and there were two wires rubbed bare, and arcing. Not enough to pop a fuse but enough to cause all kind of issues. Do a really good check on any wire/bundle that may be in an area that can rub on metal you may find a short. Best of luck!!
