Spark Plug Wires
I have a pair of braided chrome plug wires that I wanted to install on my 06 Road King Custom. The Harley dealer told me not to have them installed because I would have trouble with the wires shorting and arking. Has anyone had this problem? The Brand is Magnum and they are Sterling Chromite II

RE: Spark Plug Wires
That is correct....
The factory ignition system carries not only the main power to ignite the plugs, but also carries a constant 80 volts to be used as a sensor for the ECM to validate the complete and thorough combustion....
It's called ION Sense....
Any modifications to the Ignition Coil Secondary system (Aftermarket Plug Wires or Plugs) normally result in a CEL (Check Engine Light) and arcing/burning of wire sheathing....

RE: Spark Plug Wires
Only on the "New Generation" of bikes......
ECM and the 04 and up carbed bikes....
The ECM is a no brainer..... It senses the "Shockwave" of the ION sense through the vehicles ground circuit....
The new type of Programmable (Reflashable/Updateable) ignition picks it up the same way....
