Default bike won't start!

New bike...well, it's a 91 fatboy, but it's new for me

Started it and rode it at the shop where I bought it just fine. It's been sitting for two days, and had an issue tonight when I went to start-

I started the bike up...sounded like it was running rich, sputtered out...then just stalled and all power went out. Dash lights and everything went dark...... turned key off, jostled the bike around a bit, turned the key back on and lights came back on. The second I hit the start button, it sounded like it was about to turn over for a milisecond, then everything went dark again.

Any ideas? battery??

I'm about to freak out.

Tighten your battery cables, and the ground.

I'm good to go. It was late last night, had no tools.

Simple 1/4 turn of the screw on the battery connector this morning, and she lit right up

I did call the guy I bought from and he said something about having the issue before with this new battery he had put in...he said it was "better" than the HD battery but had issues because of where the terminal post was...

does this sound familiar to anyone?

IMHO, and if it was my bike - the first thing I would do would be to go down to my local HD shop and spring for a new HARLEY DAVIDSON battery. There is nothing worse than being stuck in the middle of nowhere with a bad battery. Ask me how I know...

that's EXACTLY what my good friend told me. Don't mess around w/ big/necessary elements of the bike...keep it strict.

one question though- can I get a new harley battery inexepensive through an online retailer..or should/must I go through the dealership?

It seems that most onlines wont ship items like batteries, oil etc. Here are some that you can try. I have used all of them at one point or another and have had good customer service etc.

I also don't think there is a "better" battery than what Harley sells. I don't have the scientific facts but they are on the board somewhere if you do some searches. I can just say that I get better than 3 years from the new sealed batteries and they fit just the way the bike was designed to accept them.
