Let me start by saying I have a 2000 Fatboy. Today while coming home from the Americade, the engine light came on. When this happened I also lost my speedo. All other lights worked. Engine never lost power. Now this problem comes and goes. It may be fine for 5 miles then not be for 2 miles. Two years ago I had the ignition switch replaced. When that was bad I had no brake light or directionals or speedo. Any advice would be appreicated before I go to the "stealership"

 

Sounds like a loose connection to me.

 

I just had a similar problem with the speedo going out and the check engine light with my 03 Ultra. Turned out to be two wires in the main bundle below the triple tree had broken (Stress break??). It caused problems with the speedo that ended up needing to be replaced. It was a troubleshooting nightmare because it wasn't throwing any codes. Check the voltages to the speedo while it is having the problem and that will tell you where to start.
