Default Old Style SERT - When does it marry?

I have never done an initial use of the SERT and was wondering at what point is the ECM data written to it.

1.) When you hook it up and say "Get ECM Info".
2.) When you program it the first time.

I read that in the manual but not sure if that is what is meant. You can use a previously used SERT and gather run data and read the ecm info so I am not convinced that the when you select that option that it writes anything back to it.

If thats the case then the manual is most certainly misleading. The way I read it. (I don't have a SERT to test) is that once the module is married it can't communicate with any other ECM.

the question i have posed is "WHEN" does it marry. Once the module is married, you are correct it cannot communicate with another ECM.

In "Data Mode" it will communicate with any.
Just can't do anything else.
Its the changing the program that it is married to just one ECM about.

It marries the first time you program a ECM

It can be used to gather data and read the ECM from any bike married or unmarried but once locked can only write to the locked ECM.
