Default Runs fine then all of a sudden dies

I've got a 96 dyna wide glide which has run perfectly until the last 3 years. 3 years ago I went for a short ride. Stopped for 2 hours then started up and took off. Only got about 200 yards as it was running rough then all of a suddened just stopped firing. Coasted off to the side of the road and tried to re-start. Nothing doing. Locked it up in the parking lot went and got a trailer and the trailered her home. In the morning started right off like nothing had happened. A year later the same thing happened. So went into the local HD shop and someone acted like they had seen that before and suggested it was the circuit breaker. Apparently the breaker trips and then hours or days later it resets. So 15 bucks later I had my new circuit breaker. (First thing that hasn't cost at least $100 ;-) Anyway installed it and thought all was fine until last friday about a year since changing the CB and then the same thing happened. This time it took 2 days before it would restart. I'm at the point where I'm afraid to ride it as so far I've been lucky as it happens at slow speeds and out of traffic.

Any ideas? Thanks, -steve-

Next time it does this.. take it to the dealer right away.. easier to find out what it is when it is not working...

My bike seems to be having this same issue.

It was strange today, when it died, I could feel the cylinders moving still, even as I increased throttle, they sped up, but no firing.
Could this be the Coil?

You must have been coasting downhill for that to happen.....

Once I was coasting on momentum, but yeah, luckily another time it died I was on a hill.
Any idea?

A really old resurrected thread and in all seriousness I really don't know why that would have happened. A problem such as "running rough" then dies has to be either lack of fuel or spark.
Could be vapor lock from a plugged fuel cap vent, dirty fuel filter or strainer, a slug of water in the fuel from your last fill up or intermittent spark from a pinched wire somewhere or a coil going bad.

Too hard to pin it down from remote, but I suggest you tackle the easiest possible problem first, then move to the next possibility. Could also be a relay that's had it and when hot it cuts out and resets when it cools off.

Good luck...
