Does a carb model softail need an electronic tuner of some sort to be adjusted correctly on a dyno?

No.the carb is adsusted manually by on the carb. jets.screws adjusters etc.

I don't believe so. For my carb'd Fatboy the Indy adjusted the valves and jets to get it tuned (did not put it on a dyno).

Maybe they were tryin to get you to get an ignition module with an adjustable rev limiter or something, not a tuner.

they where probably talking about a ign module to set the timing curve .
