Weirdest Breakdown in 43 years and 363 days of riding.
Short Version:
Riding at a smooth clip with no stop and go. Bike died when stopped at a rest stop. Brought it home. Charged the battery but blew the house fuse. Tested the battery and found my 6 month old Harley Davidson official AMG Gel battery had shorted out while running down the road for no apparent reason. I believe the cells might have shorted. If not for some great people I would have been walking!
Long Version:
It is a beautiful Sunday morning (March 15th) and I am playing hooky from all of my earthly responsibilities. I point my front fender westward and have no idea or cares where I am headed. Just serviced and I built the bike a year ago from ground up. All bugs be gone!
West from Davie, FL & turn south at the Everglades (US 27) due to a stalled car in the right hand lane. Might as well. South on Chrome Ave. to US 41 and a free right hand lane @ the Indian Gambling Casino. West it is. 2,200~2,400 RPMs and the sound of my Suppertrappfor my music and company. As traffic subsided I got into the rhythm of the road, good to be alive! Had my camera handy and saw much wildlife ie: great ergots, wood storks, some herons, turtles and small gators. The usual suspects but no good ones worthy of photos for posting. Life is good!
I saw this sign and I figured it would start some controversy so what the hell. This part is in the Indian reservation so I stopped to snap one for you. Had some water & took a break while I am at it and looked around. The house had a few large chickee huts -palmetto thatch over a bald cypress log frame- inside of the compound. This must be hard core Indians across the street where the sign was.
Finished my break and tried to start the putt. Nothing, just a buzzing of my key relay. I knew my alternator was working due to the alarm on my Digital Dakota. Never had this happen. Started tracing every wire there was concerning this situation, grounds, positives, starter, et al. WTF
One of the Indians came out of the compound with an ATV in a trailer pulled by his new Diesel Ford. I have full confidence in my ability and I was running out of options on what my failure could be.

After an hour I exhausted my options. The Indian said he would take me to the Frog Pond (Dade Corners) on Chrome and US 41. Loaded the bike and was dropped off. I wheeled the bike over into the parking and sat down on the tables to think this one out. A trio of campers with a loaded Mimi-Van came over and asked what they could do. They said their final destination was within one mile of my house. Dropped me off and loaded the trailer than back down to the Frog Pond (Dade Corners).
I charged the battery for 2 day. Tested the battery and found my 6 month old Harley Davidson official Gel battery had shorted out while running down the road for no apparent reason. I believe the cells might have shorted.
Hope you liked it....H
