Reading My Plugs

Reading My Plugs
I originally had this in the Dyna section, but, it's better off here...
I've been trying to dial in my DFO on top of my Stage 1 D/L. I have 40 miles on these current settings and am looking for some feedback on my plugs. All pertinent details are embedded in the photo.
Thanks in advance...

RE: Reading My Plugs
They don't look too far off; for the A/F mixture, I look at the black color on the first turn of threads. The black on your plugs extends a little beyond this, so if anything, you might be just a bit rich. Looking at the ground straps, you might try a plug one range hotter in front, although it's not too far off right now. The angle of the photo doesn't give a really good look at the ground strap on the rear plug, so it's tough to say about that one. All in all, not bad. As far as the color of the insulator around the electrode, I don't use that as an indicator of anything unless it's covered in black soot, but in that case, the threads would also be covered.

RE: Reading My Plugs
The bike runs well and I really don't have any complaints. There's an occasional pop on decel but it's not a "condition", per se. These settings are a little richer than last week's settings and I can see the difference on the plugs. The front plug barely had a small brown mark last week. So...should I leave as is? Richen a bit more or lean it out a tad? It's a DFO so the best I can do is just to get it in the ballpark.
Also, is a different plug for the front a necessity?

Were it me, I'd leave it alone. You can make yourself crazy trying to get these things perfect. A little rich won't hurt a thing, nor will a plug that's a little cold. Remember too, that plug reading is inexact at best. I'd say you're where you want to be right now.

RE: Reading My Plugs
They look about right to me. If the bike is running good don't change a thing. With unleaded gas plug reading is very difficult. They are just one indicator of the overall condition. I think there is thread in the DIY section about plug reading. Good article. my .02 cents.
