I have a 2002 Sportster 1200 and the battery is charged and in good shape. Turned the ignition on today and began to turn the engine when all of a sudden.. .no power.. completely dead. I tested the battery and it was ok.. upon playing with the ignition I was able to get it to power up for just a few seconds one more time but then dead again. So what's your opinion? Bad ignition switch?

Did you have the battery load tested? Did you check the battery cables to see if they were loose? Check ground strap?
