Exclamation Turn key to ignition and NOTHIN"!!!

'99 883C with 1200 Kit

I went to start it one last time before the oppression of winter ensues. It turned the key to ignition, the speedo and everything turned on, and I went to hit the start, and nothing happened and the gauges went dark.

I checked the battery and it's good, but went turning the key off and back on, nothing happens.....no lights, no gauges.....NOTHING!!

Any help would be greatly appreciated, 'cause the electrical stuff ain't my bag. Thanks!!

First toggle your run/stop switch a few times and try it. Then do this:

1.Check battery & ground connections to be certain they are tight.
2. Check your fuses in the panel 15 amp & maxi fuse
3. Check your starter relay (pull it out and put back in) inspect pins for corrosion.
4. Check the connections on your starter (tight?)

I just noticed you have no lights nothing. Then remove your battery and have it load tested. You could also have a short in the start switch that is blowing a fuse.

Battery connections, ground strap, and 15 amp fuses are good. I haven't checked the 30amp main yet. Do I check it for continuity, or is there another method? If it's good, then I'll move on to the starter.

Does this problem make sense if the bike had been sitting there for a month?
