Default GPS Hardwiring question

I have a Garmin 770 GPS that I use in both my car and RK. Although it has an internal battery, it only last for about 2 hours before going dark. It came with both a AC/DC wall charger and a cigarett lighter power cord. Can you cut the male part of the cigarett power cord off and hard wire the ends to the bike battery with an in-line fuse, or is there something in the adapter that is necessary to power the unit? The dark science of electronics is a mystery to me but I know someone out there has an answer.

You can either cut the end off of the cigarette adapter, but check wire polarity before you do this. Or you can add a power outlet adapter to your bike. If you have a battery tender pigtail on your bike you can pick up a plug (two trailer) from the auto parts store and just plug it in.
