I'm also using Autolite 4163, which is the colder version of two Autolites that fit the TC. The other is the 4164, which is the stock heat range. It does work with the ion-discharge knock-sensor.
How do you know the Knock sensor is still working? Did you run a data mode to see the spark being retarded?
Doc, do you see any real advantage to changing the heat range on a stock engine?
In the carb days we used to play with cooler heat ranges to get away from pesky detonation (pinging) problems. We found that in hotter climates, like Florida and other southern States, a cooler plug would cool the engine running temps to stop any detonation due to heat matters. Today with the EFI systems I don't see a big advantage to changing the stock plugs with anything else....the EFI is temp sensitive, load sensitive, and altitude sensitive....it darn near takes care of everything as long as it is in a good state of tune.
