Red face Remove Ignition/light switch

2002 Ultra. Just bought it . I do not have power to hdlight, spots or running lights. 15amp fuse pops as soon as i turn on the ignition. Ohm out indicates that the light blue (power?) wire has a short to ground somewhere after the fuse box. I need to remove the switch cover on the fairing, but do not know how to take the Ignition/light switch (big *** chrome teardrop shaped switch) off so that I can remove the plastic cover and check out the wiring going to the switch.

Need some instructions.

Thanks

all the instructions you will ever need are in the service manual & electrical manual. A MUST HAVE if you are going to work on your own bike. Also a hell of a lot cheaper than the dealer will charge for electrical work. Those should be your FIRST purchase when buying a bike. just my .02

I agree. I ordered both manuals last Sunday ($48.00 each) but I wanted to get this problem with my lights figured out so that I can ride my new purchase. Tonight I figured how to take off the front of the fairing w/windshield. This opens up the entire front of the bike and you can see and get to all of the wiring in the dash area. Gona start tracing down my problem in the AM.

Did the person you bought the bike from replace the bars or grips? Could be a pinched wire, happened to my brother in law.
