I have a 98 Electra Gluide 1340 EVO EFI, my problem is low charging voltage, forget the guage in the dash because I already found it to be incorrect, voltage at idle drops below the 12.6 battery voltage, and at 2000 rpms will only just go over 13 volts.&nbsp\\; This test is with high quality DVOM.&nbsp\\; Is this the norm for this older bike, or are they known to have voltage regulator problems.

Just for info this is pretty much a stock FLHTCI, and the only thing added was the original owner had Harley add the rear speakers and amp.&nbsp\\; Nothing else to draw additional voltage.

Normal charging rate should be 2.4-2.6 volts per cell. So, for a 12volt battery that would put your charging voltage between 14-15 volts.
That should be checked about 2500-3000 rpm, not at idle.

 

I would bet it is the regulator.

 

+1 That would be where I would look, assuming the battery connections are good.
