Dual Negative Leads Off the Battery

Dual Negative Leads Off the Battery
A question for all you electrical Gurus out there. In the July American Iron the was a Tech Tip about running an additional negative lead off the battery terminal to the starter, essentially another Ground. The reason given in the Tech Tip is it helps start \\;cranky motors. I presume it allows the current to flow more efficiently? Anyone care to share the electrical theory on this 'trick'? \\;Do you land it on the existing negative terminal lug on the Starter? \\;

RE: Dual Negative Leads Off the Battery
The ground path for the starter is through the aluminum case (not to mention rubber mounts) which is probably minimal. Starters pulls lots of amps so a good size copper cable addition should improve the current flow for a large build engine that really taxes the starter.

Don't know about your bikes but I suggest you take a closer look at the ground cables. The larger cable IS attached to the engine and a smaller one runs to the frame.

My point was that you do not need it with a stock 1.2 kv starter on a stock engine. Put a 2.0kv starter on a mega build, hard start engine &\\; you'll get the benefit of it.
