Default charging problems?

i replaced the battery on my 06 dyna super glide custom due to it being bad. after that i check the voltage at the battery with the engine running(now that it will start). i am getting @12.6 volts at idle and if i rev it up i get about 12.8-9 volts. at times the check engine light will come on along with the battery light. any ideas?BRIAN

check your ac volts at the stator plug... should be 20 vac per 1000 rpms! if not you have a bad stator! if this is true you may also have a alternator that seperated from the compesator spring shell by all the bolts backing out and tearing up the stator!

I recently had the same problem - ended up being the voltage regulator going kaput.

stator connector is under the voltage regulator, remove the two 1/4 20 3/16 allen head screws to remove and expose the plugs.
