PING, CHIRP, KNOCK...ethanol?
I think ethanol is becoming a problem? Been ridin' a 95" 203 cam for the last 4000 miles and within the last few weeks have gotten intermittent chirping under hard acceleration around 2500 RPM...seems to get worse when temps reach 230.
When I do find a station without ethanol the bike runs fine; I have a feeling that 10% ehtanol is going to be thefuture of gas here in Florida? Looks like I'll have to get a dyno done with this blend of gas.
Another guy I ride with has similar problems on his 96", gets 44 mpg with ethanol blendand around 47 without...the new gas sux!

Ethenol actually will increase the octain. You may have some other problem, like lean. Ethenol in gas will require slightly more richer mixture. If you are borderline 10% may show up a problem with ping. It seems theO2 sensors see the oxygen increase andare trying to richen it from the mpg drop you have, but may not be enough. **** acutally sucks. You have to burn moreto get less power unless you increase the compression and speed the burn up. If you have a tuner, go richer and it should work ok. An engine purposely built for ethenol will deliver awesome hp. HD, at the moment is not that engine.
