I have an 04 FLSTFI
This winter I made some mods.
I noticed the cool red screaming eagle plug wires in the HD parts catalog.
I asked the counter person If they would work with my bike, as I knew about the feed back issue with other wires ?
He said no problem.
I installed and within miles started getting the intermittent engine light and my gas gage lost accuracy full tank would only show 3/4.
Switched back to stock wires and both issues went away.
Can any one explain what takes place and why other than stock wires won't work on FI models?

 

I haven't a clue why your fuel guage wouldn't work unless the front plug wire was touching the fuel guage wire and sending high voltage pulses through it whisch is posibable with wires that leak as bad as the SE wires do. The main thing about the wire change is theSE wires don't have the ion sensor running through the wire to communicate with the coil about abnormal combustion (deteontion) at least the first generation SE wires didn't have the sensor....not so sure about the newer ones.

 

They work fine on mine.

 

My guess would be they are possibly not shielded, or are of a variety that does not contain EMF as well, and the leaking electrical current is playing havoc with your efi.......

 

Thanks for the feed back looks like I will be sticking with stock wires.

 

I am speculating on this, but I would guess that the fuel injections takes a hotter ignition to ignite it so therefore the wires are probably different.

 

It has to do with a feed back signal through the wires to the computer.

I see in J&P they now sell red Accell wires that specificaly state they will work with out triggering the engine light.

I am going to order a set and give them a try.

 

Bought the new red accel wires work great!
No fault light, runs well.
