Default Cluster Bulbs

I recently swapped out my gauge bulbs from amber to red and noticed that the speedo and tach use an internal bulb sealed within the gauge. Is anyone familiar with the gauge manufacture or has anyone been able to successfully open up the tach or speedo to replace the bulbs?

I included a pic showing the backside of both the speedo and fuel gauge. You can see the clip that can be pulled in order to get at the fuel gauge bulb and the connector that powers an internal bulb within the speedo.

I'd like to swap out the bulbs so all of the gauges illuminate red.

It's hard to say from the pic's, but if it has a bulb then there has to be a way to change it if the bulb burns out. I would say that it is probably under the electrical connector, or the guage can be seperated after removal from the mount.

If you try to do this yourself, just be very careful not to damage what isn't supposed to be removed.[8D]

AFAIK, there's no way to take the bulb out easily. As you know, it's on the inside, and the whole gauge is glued shut. You'll have to try and pry the whole thing apart without breaking it, and then glue it back together.

If it can't be replaced, I would bet it is not a bulb but an LED.

They do the gauges and modified face plates. On late model hogs the speedo and tachs have factory leds. The fuel gauge has a bulb as do the turn signal indicators. If they can replace the leds, then so can you. If you have tools and a soldering iron. I have changed the color of my VW gauges, It looks sweet. I am going to do the same to my 02 lowrider. Not to soon though, I have too many other projects going on. You can get any color, size and brightness of led here http://www.superbrightleds.com/
