SERT Difficulties

SERT Difficulties
Ok, has anyone encountered difficulties trying to establish computer-to-bike communications recently? I just tryed to connect my new SERT and I keep getting the message "ALDL adaptor was not responding" and it tells me tocheck the connections and so forth. I've done all of that to no avail. I did continuity checks with an ohm meter on the cables; all good. I did a search here on the forum and have tried all of those applicable suggestions too like re-loading the Belkin USB adapter, reloading the SERT programs, restarting the computer several times, tried 2 different computers one with a normal serial port, used both Windows Vista and XP operating systems, tried a downloaded copy of SERT version 4.7.7; still no luck.
I was moments away from bashing the SERT adapter with a hammer, but then I remembered all this stuff has cost me some $400 so far. I thought about removing the fuse from the bike's ECM to 'reset' (kinda like with a car ECM), but wasn't sure that would work. My next stop will be to have it checked out by a dealer.
Any other thoughts would be appreciated. By the way, the bike is a 2006 Electra Glide Classic and the SERT adapter came withversion 4.6.2.
Thanks.

RE: SERT Difficulties
I should have mentioned that I have tried all those things too (ignition AND run switch in ON, selected the COM port, downloaded the latest drivers from the Belkin website at least twice); still the same "ALDL adaptor was not responding" message.
By the way; is 'ALDL' referring to the SERT adapter or to the plug on the bike.

RE: SERT Difficulties
I have seen this issue with both usb and serial port computers using everything from Windows 2000 to XP and Vista. It is usually an operator error. Com port doesn't auto connect, software did not load correctly, etc. Try this, remove the SERT software and reinstall. Reboot your computer and hook up all cables starting with the data port on the bike and work your way out to (hopefully) a 9 pin port computer. Turn on run button and ign switch, select com port and get ECM info. Many times I have also seen after you do get com and try to load a tune it will drop off line at 25% and tell you it is unable to load bootloader. The # of computer configurations and baud rates is the likely culprit. The SERT is a fine tool but has always been quirky. Good luck!
