electrical problem - ignition switch?
I get home from a couple hour ride and turn off the run switch. Reach down and turn the key off, but the head light, running lights and oil light stays on. So I pull the key out of the ignition and they still stay on. Put kick stand down and start to lean the bike over and they all go off and then back on the further I lean. With all the weight on the stand everything stays off. So I start straighten the bike up and they flash on and off until I get it vertical. I find that perfect little angle where the lights stay on, turn on the run switch, hit the starter and it fires up with out the key in the ignition.
At some point while the lights where on, I tapped on the ingnition switch and it had no effect.
Anyone ever have this happen?
Does anyone know if a 2001 1200C has a lean sensor or trip sensor or what ever it is called? What is proper name for this sensor so I can look for it in my book?
What would be the target of suspicion here, ignition switch?
Thanks

Since the bike will start without the key......I would first look at the ignition switch. Not sure if your bike has a bank angle sensor but I don't think that is it if it does.

It sounds like you have a failing ignition switch or possibly water inside the switch. Ive seen water in these switches before. Did this seemhappen after you washed the bike?

Any one know the ball park price of a ignition switch for a 01 1200?
Thanks everyone.

Now I can't make it do it. But I can't trust it either.
Could it be condinsation inside. The bike sits in a cold garage (I know, cold is not 50*) and think I take it out on a 70* day, with the engine heat rising on it, it could sweat inside and short out. But by last night it might have dried since the Sunday ride.

RE: electrical problem - ignition switch?
Just to let you all know, incase someone has the same situation, I think I found my problem.
The previous owner had added a volt meter to the system on the side of the battery. One of the wires tapped into the ignition wire. That wire was rubbing up against the positive post of the battery and it finnally wore through. So when it was making contact, it was bypassing the ignition switch and allowing the bike to stay energized.
And I figured it out only three hours after ordering a new ignition switch. [:@]
But just thought I would post the fix incase someone else has the same type of problems.
