Default Where's the fuse box???

I have an '89 Softail FLSTC and the 3 headlights are not working. I'm assuming it's a fusebut cannot find the fuse box. I looked under the seat-not there. Could it be under the gas tank? I have dual tanks-which side would it be?
Thanks,
Sid

I had the same problem on my 90. You may not have a fuse box, you may have circuit breakers and they are under the seat.

Most early softails circuit breakers are under the dash, they hang from a strip to the rear of and between the tanks. You can get to them by removing the dash. It will be a tight fit with the tanks on but it is possible to reach them.

If you need to remove the tanks it is easier if you have a helper. Remove the mounting screws to the right tank and slightly pull it away and have a helper hold it there. You won't have to drain the tanks or disconnect the fuel lines.

Another thing to check while the dash is off is the ignition switch. It controls the lights and may have a bad or dirty terminal. Clean the terminals and the rotating bar that makes contact with the terminals. Also jump the terminals and see if the lights come on. The switch may need replacing.
