Default Front barke switch

I have a 97' RK and the brake light flickers on and off. I have determined that the brake lever does not fit tightly between the switch and the master cylinder piston. I have inspected the switch and it doesn't seem to have the end broken off and the copper wedge is in place. I think the spring on the piston is worn not pushing the piston all the way back out?

That is most likely the problem. If the lever is loose, the switch will turn on and off. m Tighten the brake cable a bit.

Are you sure it's the front brake handle causing it or could it be the rear brake ?

Hi Barry, welcome to the HDForum from New Zealand, enjoy!! [sm=welcomesign.gif]

Try tightening the cable and see what happens.

This was a common problem with '97 model year. Had a sporty and a WG with it. The official answer is to rebuild the master cylinder. At the time I put a little dab of JB weld - about 2-3mm - on the brake lever right where it contacts the switch.

However, since yours is now 9 years old, I'd suggest rebuilding the MC. It's easy to do, and costs about $20 or so.

Yes I am sure it is the front brake. If I hold pressure against the lever the problem goes away.
