Rider57 what is the most accurate way and most realistic way for us to measure the engine temp?

These bolts you describe, is there a web site where they can be seen?

Just another update. Temps here got into the mid 80's and I can honestly say that my bike feels substantially cooler now. Even sitting at stop lights after a freeway run... You can feel the heat coming off the engine, but it's cooler for sure.

Now that the honeymoon is over, I am still happy. Time for some other mods... I'll also post pics tonight in my thread about the air cleaner mods I did.

How do you read the code...i thought you needed a device to plug into the ECM for that...is there a way to check the actual code without?...and do i have to contact the dealer to figure out what the code is? Thanks for the help!

Accurate = lab grade ($$$)
Realistic = IR and what you feel on your leg.
Let's face it, HOT is HOT and we all know it.
I dont know what a good rule of thumb would be. Subtract 15 to 20 degrees seems to be a fair number from the testing done here.
I never looked for a website for them. I order them through GSA and they arrive. Plain white boxes with no printing other than the size and temp range. I will try and get the supplier info.

O.o.o.o.o.K..Rider57...now say it again in English this time !!!

I installed my IED's todayand took it for a run. After the initial start and warmup, I could notice a difference in the sound and also in the feel of the bike when it was idleing. It sounded and felt smoother.
I made about a 30 mile run at speeds and driving conditions including both interstate, city and winding country roads. As the temperature came up to the normal operating range, I felt that there was a noticable difference in the throttle response and the sound of the exhaust. Response is quicker and the stock exhaust is louder and deeper in tone.

I was out yesterday and made roughly the same run. Without the IED's
Temperature was 58 Deg. ambient.
Took my temp. readings about 1 inch left of the plugs.
front head temp 271 deg. F rear head temp 297 deg F 26 deg difference front to rear

Today, Temperature was 74 deg. F
front head temp 298 deg. F rear head temp322 deg F 24 deg difference front to rear

I would say that so far, I've gotten the same results as everyone else. And, so far, I am pleased.
Took all of about 3 minutes to put them on and tie them up out of the way.

My 2' Rush slip-ons are due in tomorrow. Soon as they get here, I'll get them on and give you another report.

This is on my 07 FLHTC with 4400 miles on it. Running synthetic fluids, stock AC and exhaust

I figured that I would post the test results and find that it would be easier if those that want the results just PM me with their email address I will send the entire test results.
Thank Steve for the permission to post and email these.

Looks good to me! Now you can subtract about 20F from your IR readings and you would be very close.

ALL the testing is done. And I got it done before Steves deadline!
The man is a slave driver.
Actually, we got lucky with the lab being empty at the best times as well as helpers that also ride.
