Nightrider O2 IED's - Field Test

RE: Nightrider O2 IED's - Field Test
Marss, here's a reply from Steve concerning your codes.
The IED's do not throw codes unless something is not quite right. When a bike shows a code with the IED's installed, it means one of two things:
1-The IED's were not "clicked tight" during install. Remove the IED's, then re-install, making sure that they "click" into place. The connectors are very tight, so occasionally a rider will not get them properly set. This is the most common cause of a code being thrown.
This should be tried even if it looks like the connectors are properly set.
2-An IED is bad. If the rider resets the IED's and the ECM still throws a code, have him e-mail me. I'll get him replacements right away that I will personally check and send him a post-paid envelope to return the orignals.
The actual field failure rate of O2 IEDs is about 0.6%. so while a bad one occasionally gets into the hands of a rider, it is unusual.

RE: Nightrider O2 IED's - Field Test
Well I checked the IED's today and they seemed to be snapped in. Unsnapped and re-snapped. Checked everything, no sharp bends, just a gentile curve on both. Took it for a short test ride. Stopped at two Auto Zones looking for an infered thermometer (no luck, out of stock) but after the second one, right after starting, it threw a code again. This time it was just the front IED, O2 sensor lean code (p0131) Cleared it and emailed Steve. What's weird is I swear they are working! Or maybe it's the placebo effect! Seems cooler, smoother, harder pull at low rpm, and less decel popping. Oh, and after my ride yesterday, filled up and I lost a couple mpg, so it must be working! Runs great.

I got to take my first ride after install. Wife and I, Two up, did about 90 miles. No codes no problems. Bike ran great. Several large hills were pulled in 6th gear at 65mph with no hesitation or lugging. Very smooth. I did notice the exhaust hasa bit of a different note. Caused by the richer mixture. It also felt cooler to my butt thermometer. So all in all zero complaints and well worth the $70. My bike is a stock 2007 FXST with IEDs, & VH BSS. Have not changed AC or done a stage one down load.
