Looking into a new Fatboy. I want it to run right, and sound Harley. But I don't want to take a big hit on mileage. Following this (excellent) thread I'm thinking to pass on the SERT to start, and go with stock air intake, aftermarket exhaust, and IED. I'd concede the 3 or so MPG's as approprite address of F'd up HD lean condition.

My question, before reading this thread I was considering some cobra speedster pipes. I could fall back to some nice Rush slipons. Would aftermarket pipes aside from slipons be a bad move?

Not really. They just cost more.

Ok Fellas,
My testing is done.
The idea of playing with the Clyinder Head Temp sensor and what it reports to the ECU didn't impact the AFR enough to make it worth while so I would not mess with that.
The relocated IAT gave me a difference of .3. It was easy to do and cheap.
The home made IED (resistors) cost me $3.00 total ($1.50 for a pack of 5, I used all 10K, 2 in series for the 20K and 1 for the series - paralell) ,and worked as I thought.
The end result is I can run the bike at upto about 60to 75 % throttle and stay in closed loop resulting in 13.8:1 AFR and head temps run 210 front and 215 rear. Thats about the same as my 97 RK. The best part is, I cant feel the heat sitting at a light anymore!
I'm happy with that. I only did this to see if I could save some money vs. buying the whoule LC1 kit for this bike also.
You may not get the same exact results I got but I'm willing to bet that it will be damn close.
Remember, dont soldier the connections, use crimp connectors. Make sure you dont short the pigtails of the resistors together. They will fit in the OEM O2 tubing if your careful.
In short, you can do this and not screw something up as it can be undone with out harm to your system.
Have fun gang, and ride.
can you draw us a diagram and instructions on this mod? i bet people here would be happy to send you a couple bucks for the info too, this could help compensate for your trouble

The information is available at Nightrider.com.
I just started tinkering before they posted anything.

OK, I'm in California &I have a 2008 Ultra Classic that I want to use the 02 IED's on.

I have not done anything to it yet. I do have Vance & Hines Oval Slip On Mufflers V16727, the Stage 1 kit from the dealer and the chip download already paid for. None of this is on the bike yet,but I would like to haveit all done with the 02 IED's.

Will this work this way or should I do a different set up?

It was much easier on my 01 Ultra. [sm=confused06.gif]

I like the idea of the stock box with the slipons as I'm adding the slipons here very soon. I just like the look of the round cover that I had on my Dyna which required the SE intake. In that setup I had the V&H straightshots and PCIII. Man, did it run nice. The extra 3-4 mpg that you lose is definitely worth the trade, although this 96 has some nice torque as a stocker. My dyna was an 88.

For now I think, I'll go with the slipons, whatever they may be, and the stock box until I get tired of looking at the canned ham.

Diebolt go ahead and have the dealer do the stage one, then after they are through you can put the IED's on.

Are you referring to the IAT relocation Rider57?

Will the Stage 1, air filter, download chip & the Vance & Hines be the best set up to cool it down ?

Mama doesn't like the HEAT

Gotta keep her happy
