Default RE: IED /XiED Field Tests

Mileage report, Imperial gallons, 89 octane gas, stock engine:

Six samples with XIEDs - 51.90 MPG

Three samples after XIEDs removed - 50.87 MPG

However, the three non XIED samples were 52.48, 51.81 and 48.34.&nbsp\\; Since the six XEID samples and the first two non-XIED samples exhibited little variance, the 48.34 is considered an unexplained outliar.&nbsp\\; All riding was conducted in similar road and temperature conditions.

So, rejecting the 48.34, the average for non-XIED becomes 52.14 MPG.

Regret unacceptably small sample size, but I'm not leaving my XIEDs off any longer.

Post 2601 reported my lame attempt at establishing gas mileage XIED vs non-XIED.

With the XIEDs the bike runs perfectly at acceptable temps. Accordingly, I have no real need for SEAC, Stage One Download, or SEII pipes.

My only interest in installing one or more of the above three options would be to get an improvement in gas mileage.

I would appreciate opinions with regard to mileage improvements using one or more of these items.

Regards, Gary&nbsp\\;

I just removed my Xieds tonight.&nbsp\\; Over the weekend I noticed ping on hard acceleration, popping on decell.&nbsp\\; Did no want to risk damage.&nbsp\\; Installed pciii from Fuel moto waiting to see if that cures it.

Glens My original temperature data was taken with thermocouples. This was not repeatable by the average rider. Riders on this forum developed their own IR thermometer protocol, which they used to document in great detail the expected temperature drops. I appreciate the hard work of these riders.
Our temperature testing procedure was simple we were only looking for change. We picked out a target on each cylinder and hit the target repeatedly only seeking change. If the target area showed 25 degrees cooler with the IED we knew the IED was working as outlined by Steve.Same procedure applied for the XIED.We were totally consistent with the usage of the infrared thermometer.

The XIED richens the Bike and would normally cure a Bike that is popping on decel unless you have a bad enough leak that is creating a very lean condition.

I have roughly 1100 miles on the xieds.&nbsp\\; Never experienced these problems before, however this past weekend with temps near 90 is when it started.&nbsp\\; SEAC, Rush2.0, Download, now pciii.

I have basically the same setup you have.It runs real good with the XIED as I imagine yours did before this weekend.Sounds like you may have developed a leak in your intake. That would account for the pinging and popping both the possible results of a very lean condition.

Just received my EXIDE's, bike is just to hot to go out and install. When she cools off I'll install and report "MY Seat Of The Pants" results.

Default Simple Question - Spark Plugs

I have been following this thread and purchased my IED's last week. Question for everyone with IED's...What spark plugs are you using, brand and model? The dealer had put in a cooler plug on my back some time back to reduce some pinging....I'm wondering if I should go back to stock plug now.
