Default Questions regarding Stage I, '07

Okay, being new to HD air cooled, I have a question or two about what I think is called the "Stage I" upgrade. I picked up a set of HD Screamin Eagle slip-ons for the wifes '07 Softail Deluxe on the cheap. I need to know, before I get the ECM remapped, what should I do on the intake side? Do they make a simple screaming eagle high flow filter replacement? I did see a SE Stage I air cleaner on the HD website, but at $140 is kinda pricey. (for me at least)
Thanks
Greg

I have seen people only replace the element with a high flow element while using the stock backing plate. The cover will not fit back properly if you go this route,it leaves about a half inch of the filter exposed on the backside where it meets the backing plate. If your looking for a complete kit its gonna be 150.00 and up depending on which one you go with. And if you dont do the install yourself you can add a half hour labor to that (35.00).

Go to Eastern Performance and get a Ness big sucker for about $112.00 for the cast backplateand filter. Another $15.00 will get you chrome.

Yes, the complete Stage I is a high flow air cleaner/filter system, EFI retune and pipes. There are aftermarket products available from K&N and others, you can order from zanotti motors at a 20% discount.

Thanks Guys. All helpful. Keep 'em coming.

So, if I use an aftermarket kit, like the big sucker, will my HD dealer know how to remap it?

I have no problem installing something like an air cleaner or the slip-ons myself. A follow up question would be; Can I run the bike for a short time with the intake and exhaust mods, and before a remap, without damage?
Thanks Again
Greg

I would NOT run the bike without at least a remap as the bikes run hot from the factorydue toepa reg's. You would eventually burn up your motor especially with high flow air and high flow exhaust.

Do you think I could run it about 45 miles? That is my closest, preferred dealership.

45 miles wont hurt a thing. I put on my rush slipons rode to dealer (35miles) they did the download, rode home and put on a/c the next day. it is not necassery to have the a/c on when they do the download.

Does installing the Stage I, Power Commander and slip-ons void your extended warranty?
Has anyone tried the Cobra fuel management system?
