Default Improved turn signal indicators

Since I got my new Heritage Softail Classic this summer, I have been unhappy with the dim green turn signal indicators on the dash. I have to strain to see them, and I do not like to be staring at the dash while I am making a turn. Since these indicators are an integral part of the warning light console, I was stuck.
I went to my local AutoZone and bought two red 12 volt LEDs that plug into a 1/2 inch hole. I pulled the console, drilled two 1/2 holes in it, installed the new LEDs and then it was a simple matter to splice into the turn signal indicator wires just ahead of the plug that goes into the warning light console. It works like a charm, and only cost me $6.00.

Here's a photo of the final installation:

Pretty cool idea.

I hate having to look down to check, since these auto-cancelling sometimes do, sometimes dont, and sometimes dont turn on if it is on-turn-on again.

I need to find a higher location to put them. Thanks for the inspiration.

I like the work and ingenuity Tommy. But what I really liked was the part about looking down while making a turn to see indicators. You obviously dont live in Phoenix or L.A. or we would have read about you in the paper.Be careful, were all in this together,Bob

I like that too Tom, mind if I put it in the DIY section?

Sure...put it wherever it might help someone. Hey Bob...I really don't stare at the console while I'm turning! But it did irritate me not being able to see the blinkers with my peripheral vision. Now I keep eyes on the road and I still see whether the blinker is on or not.

Thanks!

Great Idea, I am too cheep and lazy to do it I just glance at my turn signals on my front end and see if they are on and that seems to work well, unless I move them lower. Then I will have to use your idea.

Keep up the good thinking so I don't have to.

Good Idea Tommy,

I was thinking of doing something similar the other day, only I want them up on the triple tree area. Maybe integrate them into the handlebar clamp.

This sounds like a great idea, I have two indicator lamp assemblies that have failed, one the nuetral light doesnt work, the other has a right turn indicator that blinks with engine revs. Can you give us a brief description please of how you connected the replacement LED to the wiring harnes?
