Headlight Turning On and Off

Hi,
I have an '87 FXSTC and I think I know the answer to my post already but I want to get a second opinion. I noticed my headlight fading in and out and going on and off on my last ride, while other lights function normally. On the last ride I went on, it went completely out.
Someone mentioned it may be the batttery, but I know it's juiced right and it's new. Also, someone said check the connection. But since it's completely out now, I'm thinking the headlight is just burned out. Can anyone out there confirm this, or is there something I'm overlooking?
Cheers!

You need to determine if it's power, ground or a failed headlamp.
You'll need a volt meter to check the voltage to the headlamp. This has to be done with the circuit trying to work.
Or you can remove the headlamp from the bike , unplug it and check the filaments for continuity. No continuity....replace the lamp.
Headlamp ok.....plug the light back into the bike and check for voltage at the lamp.
Good voltage.....get out the wiring prints and find out where the ground went bad.
