i drive a '99 buell lightning 1200. it's in great condition and i never had any problems with it until recently. every so often i'll be driving and out of nowhere i will loose all power. my speedometer and tacometer will go to 0 and i will just coast. after a few hundred feet it will turn back on. any ideas what this could be cause by?

 

I had a similar problem on a 2000 sportster. Turned out to be on the coils, either the plug boots or elctrical connections. I replaced the plug wires and reseated/tightened the connections and never had it again. I did both at the same time, so I don't know which actually fixed the problem.
