One thing that you'll want to check is the battery on the bike. If you can, leave it on the battery tender while you're doing the work with the ECM. I unplug the headlight fuse while I do this, in order to make sure there is as small a load on the battery as possible.

Yea it's unreal,I have a toggle for headlight off,have trickle charger on battery all the time,but do take it off for the procedure.Next time it will stay on and I'm trying to find a laptop with a serial.

Hopefully final update,received ECM back from dealer(second time)now have desktop in garage with serial port and nothing on it except for SERT,connected everything up,kept trickle charger on bike and loaded new custom map without hitch,what an experience,thanks to all for their suggestions
