Hog - Get the cables from your local dealer. I did the same and it was definately worth it. ( $35 ) I think it states in the manual a specific serial to usb converter because most of them have problems.

Also has anyone used a USB to Serial adaptor because their computer didn't have a serial connection?

I just finished programming my ECM by using a Belkin F5U109 adapter. It worked where an earlier RS232 to USB adapter did not.

I didn't get far enough in the manual, orderingthe cablesis required.
Thanks, guys. I've got my parts list together.
I'm planning on doing the work in December / January when riding is slim to none and I'll be ready for spring.
