Default Winter and Battery Tender

Here I am in Minnesota cold and snowy.

If I leave the battery in my bike and connected to battery tender is that OK?

Or should I remove the battery for the winter and bring inside?

Thanks

I take my battery out and store them above the water heater. Nice and warm, and the last for years. Don't have a battery tender.

I just installed a battery tender connection today (I have a 2005 Wide Glide). Harley makes a neat little battery tender with which you can either pull the battery and use clips or permanently mount clips to the battery and you then have a little connector wire (easily hidden) that you leave on the bike. You just plug the tender in if the bike will be stored for any length of time. Most bikes are easier to get to the battery than the Dyna Wide Glide I'll bet, but it's not a big problem either way. I live in Joliet Illinois (outside Chicago). The weather's not as bad as Minnesota, but it's close. I have asked around and everyone I've talked to said the tender will extend your battery life by quite a bit and leaving it connected for the winter is fine. The people I got the info from are LONG time wrenches, so take it for what it's worth. The HD battery tender (which should work on any brand bike, is about $39. It beats the heck out of a regular trickle charger.

The battery tender is great but you would be better off removing your battery and keeping it in a warm place. You can turn your battery tender on every now and then to keep it charged. The cold weather really drains your battery and the "tender" won't be able to keep up when it's 10 below and your oil is so thick you can cut it with a knife.

Last year, when I had a Suzuki, I took the battery out and kept it hooked to the tender in the house all winter.

This year I am planning on just keeping the battery in the bike and hooking it up to the tender all winter.

BTW I always plug my tender in even during riding season. When my ride is in the garage it is plugged to the tender.

Guess it's in my user name---I've completely loosened all three thumb screws on my '06 Heritage Classic seat and can't get the seat off to get to the battery. What gives? I've purchased the battery tender but I'm hesitant in yanking the passenger pillon or seat to hard.

Did you take the strap off the seat?

Yep, strap off. However, how difficult is it suppose to be to completely remove seat mounting screws. All I can seem to do is completely loosen them but not remove them?
