Is the SERT the same and only the software modified? I have the previous version that I have hung onto and haven't used hoping that the only change would be the CD - true??

As far as I know it is the same piece of hardware - which as you stated would only require the 'L' version of the software to connect to an 08 model.

Doc is right, my mistake there are not 2 clb tables for the 08's.
There are two (2) CLB tables, one for front and one for the rear cylinder in the 08 SERT software. Both tables can be found in the table selection pull down window, IN ADVANCED MODE ONLY. I have both tables maxed at 798 on my new 08 Heritage.

There is only one CLB table in the map I used on my '08 EGC. Maybe it depends on which map you load.
Yes, it is the new '08 software and SERT.

Checked some different maps for the 08's and seems some have 2 CBL tables and some don't.

The FLH bikes have a new fly by wire throttle and an all new ECM. That may be the reason for the different approach as to the CLB tables
