Default HelpSERT won't read ECM

I was over at my friend's house today trying to do a download, pipes and A/C, for his 05 Electra Glide Classic with a brand new out of the orginial box interface module. We could not get the ECM to recognize that it was hooked up tolaptop. Kept getting the error that no communications was taking place. We swapped cables, two different setsand hooked up to my bike with no problems, using the same latop but with my interface box. Made sure that the ignition switch was on along withthe run switch on the EG was on too. But still no success. This leads me to believe that he may have gotten a bad interface box, since we are using the same computer with the latest software, cables check out because we can see the ECM info on my bike but never establish any link with his ECM (EGC). Could it besequence thing? I am really stumped on this one. Any advice would be appreciated.

It's just an idea but I remember something about the touring bikes having a second connector just like the ECM connector. If my feeble old brain can remember correctly, it was for an accessory device and didn't connect to the ECM. Might be worth checking that senerio out on the EG.

If you are using a USB to Serial adapter to connect to the computer, it may be that adapter causing the problem. Seems that SERT doesn't like a lot of the off brand adapters and prefers Belkin or an internal card.

On my '07 Road King Classic the only thing under the seat is an acc. power connector. The ECM connector is under the right side cover.

Bingo! That's what I remember now. The ECM connector is behind the right side cover. The connector under the seat is for an optional heated seat.

Thanks for the location grandpawmoses. Will let you know if that is what I find. I know that on my Dyna it is on the left side with the fuses. Just pop the chrome cover off and there it is.

Wecroft- we are directly pluging in to the laptop without any adapter thanks for the thought though.
