I'm having an electrical malfunction on my 1999 Softail Standard. It turns over fine and seems to be running fine, but when the revolutions get higher the speedo needle drops to zero and the tripmeterflickers off. Battery connections appear to be tight and solid.

Anyone know what might be wrong?

Did you solve your problem? I'm having the same thing happen to my 99 Softail Custom.

 

Carl,
Check your voltage @ the battery,while you rev your bike to about 2k RPM. If your voltage goes over 14.5 V your regulator needs to be replaced. This is exactly what happened to me.
