Default Fuel level on gauge and actual in tank

I have a 21 Tri Glide and when I get the 25 miles to go low fuel light I stop and fill up and always put 4.5-4.8 gallons in the tank, well my tank is 6 gallons. Is there something I can change or do myself to make the gauge more accurate? Anyone else have experience with this issue

I know but 1 whole gallon off is quite a bit. One positive note, I never run out of fuel lol.

Practically every car or truck you've ever owned does pretty much the same thing you just don't notice it since the tank volume is so much greater. In a practical sense no there's really not much you can do to "fix" the problem, it's pretty much a nature of the beast.

My gauge recently starting showing as full when I know it isn't.
H-D gauges are designed to notify low fuel w/ 1 gallon remaining.
It's not an 'empty light', but a 'low fuel light'.

The only way to stay on top of your fuel level is to use the trip odometer instead of the gauge.

While those are both certainly in the top 5, let's not forget that stupid passenger grab strap.

perhaps an idiot safety build in. maybe it is a main fuel calibration that does not account for reserve.
also do not forget most efi pumps have a reservoir that traps fuel so the pump does not pull in vapor so there has to be some level of fuel in there to compensate for sloshing around fuel.
be glad and do not sweat it.

When I’ve rode for close to 150-200 miles I’m stopping anyway so it’s not a very big deal. I may strap a fuel can on and ride until I run out one time.
