Default SOS!!!! 2008 rocker ignition coil and hi all!

First up hi all!
I have a 2008 rocker c that I have been wrenching on for a while now and I have recently developed a starting issue. I am looking at the ignition coil atm with a multimeter and I’m in unknown territory but learning everyday with this bike.

ok so randomly the bike is hard to start now it’s not a starter clutch (replaced the whole starter 2 months ago) I’ve done leads and spark plugs. When it cranks and fails the exhaust lets out like a poof” noise. Have video of it.. now I’ve been doing this on my own I have a service manual for specs I’ll provide a pic of it and I’ve spoke to the local dealership and they tell me this one has a oem dual fire (happy for some one to correct me).

multimeter test of the primary resistance is 0.7 ohms (within spec of the manual) however the secondary resistance bare coil comes in at 3420 ohms. Now that by the book is low however this has a 4 pin Delphi on it and I would appreciate someone in the know to have a look at how I’m testing it in the pictures and tell me I’m wrong…..

thanks guys! By the way I still love working on it!

the dual fire coil has 2 terminals and both cylinders will have fire on every stroke, one on compression and the other exhaust.
the single fire only sparks on the cylinder on compression. it has 3 terminals but some modules could have 4 pins.
if you have a stock module, it has to match up in impedance or damage could result.
is that a stock coil? one of the best ways to check ignition is with an oscilloscope.

it is a stock coil, and since this post was made Harley was able to tell me it is dual fire. I don’t have an oscilloscope sorry, I watched YouTube videos and really just winging it 😂 thanks for replying. I am hoping it is this otherwise I’m back up **** creek without paddle with this bike

Forgive double posts if it happens!

I called the local dealership and chased up info on the stock coil.

this is stock as far as I am aware and by that phone call the stock coil is dual fire. But that is all I could get from them.

I might just order it and take a multimeter when it arrives to test it idk

whilst a week ago I would have stood with you on this comment….. as it would appear via oem part that this in fact dual fire…. I had to get the service man to repeat it…. Either way I’ve worked out how you test a 4 pin Delphi if it was single fire and those resistance figures are even lower then the way tested above… I am like 80 % sure this needs replacing. Phew I thought maybe I was up for a compensator

How did you determine that? Look at the wiring diagram.. There are front and rear cylinder wires on the primary side.

read above quotes on how I determined that. I only assume the Harley Davidson parts specialist looked up my bike which has a different wiring diagram to the other softails in twin cam.

I’m happy to be proven wrong I can work a diagram out but **** we will be here a long time….

We are straying from how I am measuring this to make sure it is faulty I really couldn’t give a f*#k if it’s what it is. I just need to know if I need another one of them to solve the issue I currently have. Please just tell me how to measure I don’t care what it is 🤣 so I don’t put money into something that doesn’t need replacing…

With the plugs in and the motor has compression. are you getting spark on cranking? If so swap the plug wires.

I assume it has the stock ECM.

well stock ecm but was tuned by previous at a shop I know. I think by chance cables have swapped around after me pulling it apart…. Can I get measurements off of a multimeter with it?

I’ve seen videos for single and dual fire but none specifically like mine with a four pin Delphi… I’ve got the manual I’ll snap shot here hang on..

The below is specifically the fxcwc it’s separate from all other softails in the manual
