Spark Plugs

Spark Plugs
Does anyone know if performance spark plugs make a difference? My motor has been modified to 106 inches, 9.5:1 compression. Bike runs strong with 103 HP and 110 lb TQ. However, I do notice some engine pinging when I hit the throttle wide open - usually in 5th gear to pass, say from 70mph to 80mph. I think more noticable on hot days. I run the highest octane gas I can find.
Wouldperformance sparks with a lower temp range help with the detonation? Or is this all hype?
Thanks

RE: Spark Plugs
ya go a temp cooler (usually a larger number) and maybe need a bit more octane?? you runnun 91 i presume. that high compression combined with the heat of a really hot day can easily cause low oct fuel to pre-ignite. i know it 2-strokes this pinging in excess can burn a hole in the piston. i dont think yer there by any means but try the cooler plug and then maybe add sum oct boost the next tiem you fill up.

RE: Spark Plugs
av lite fuel is about 101 oct that might be your ticket but kinda a bit$h if you ride alot, cuz you have to go to the small airports to get it. or buy race gas (110oct) and mix with 91 pump. 2 gallons race gas to 3 of 91 makes about 100 oct. its aveages in case your wondering how to get the number. so find a oct level that works sounds like you need just a lil more and the plug just might get you there.
