From everything you've stated, I think you should test your ignition module. Here is a link from the forum.

your year bike has a crank position sensor. I have had them go intermittant and have the same symptoms that you have. they test out ok, then the bike acts wierd. MIght try to replace that.

Would not fire as he has stated if it was that. Just been thru that .

Note it got all the way to post 16 to isolate it. Don't just start buying parts.

First I want to Thank Everyone for all the responses. It came down to being the vacuum diaphragm in the petcock not opening the plunger far enough. Took the advice given with the either and not only did it fire it stayed running. Changed out petcock and now starts , idles, and runs as it should. Discovered vent line needed replaced and also going to replace fuel line and vacuum lines. Need some improvement on my PM's. Again, Thank You for all the help and I will be watching new posts to see if I can be of any help with what I've learned through my years.
