Default 1992 FXSTS not running right. Stutter, backfire, hard to start

Hey

Have this 92 Softail 1340, which runs pretty bad. It is backfiring and running rough. If i rev the throttle it will almost die out, or backfire..really loud bangs. 🙂

Any tips or tricks appreciated.

PS: i was suggested to change the cam sensor. The rotor seems fine, but the sensor is pretty soft and sticky.

sensor would be suspect.
plugs gapped correctly?
do the plugs have a fur coat? suggesting enrichener stuck or left on too long.
air filter clean?
fuel supply issue?
Battery been load tested.

@Beardedviking

Give us some more information.

Has the bike been inactive?

How long has this been an issue?

It is not time to start buying parts yet, you have some troubleshooting to do.

Its been standing still for a while yes. Fuel hoses were degraded and useless, so i changed them.
Its been a problem since last year.
i have dismantled the carb now and will clean it tomorrow to see if things change.
Was also thinking about changing the intake manifold seals.

Does the enrichener get stuck? How do you notice this.

Air filter is clean.
Fuel supply is ok. But hoses were bad.
Battery is tested ok.

Haul the plugs out and look,
enrichener may have debris (deteriorated hose pieces) preventing sealing. This becomes apparent when it runs as described and probable black smoke from exhaust.

So it turned out to be one of the plugs. Apparently the evo motor has a tendency to kill one of the plugs after winter storage.
Yey!

Thanks for all replies, and help.
At least my carb got a good clean😆
