Default Aftermarket fuel pumps: All the same?

Looking at pictures of aftermarket fuel pumps for my 2000 FLH, they all look identical: The same size, shape, configuration, and even the same shade of gray plastic on the bodies. I've seen people here recommend one brand over another, but are they actually different or do they just have better marketing? What are your thoughts?

I ask because I just attempted to install a new aftermarket pump. The convoluted output hose was already bent into the "U" shape needed to connect to the fuel filter that sits right next to it, but it was bent in the wrong direction. I CAREFULLY cut the clamp that holds the hose onto the fuel pump and the damned plastic output nipple on the pump snapped off! If there really is a difference, I'd like to buy a superior pump.

EDIT: I see that the Quantum pumps are blue, so apparently there are differences

Why aftermarket? Didn’t HD offer for your bike?

Can't speak to much since I have only ever needed one aftermarket fuel pump (OEM is obsolete) and that was for my 2002 V-Rod. I used a QFS kit and it was what I regarded as very high quality. Practically plug 'n' play and has worked perfectly since install. I would have preferred OEM, but in my case it wasn't an option.

The MoCo fuel pump is $410m which is a financially hard pill to swallow. Aftermarket are sub $100.

I just picked up a Quantum pump & a pressure regulatory. The pump is blue instead of gray, so that makes me more confident ***eye roll***. Time will tell

I bought a brand new aftermarket pump for my EVO on ebay for roughly $35. I don't remember the OEM price but it wasn't $35. It hasn't failed me yet. It's nothing special, no name brand, etc. It just works.

I bought an aftermarket for my 2000 Road Glide and it lasted 8 years (plus the time the new owner has it currently.) $79.95 or so.
You have to remember, Harley bought theirs 'aftermarket'. too. They don't make fuel pumps.

QFS that I mentioned is Quantum. They are high-quality fuel components.

But, either they buy off the shelf and we don’t know which ones they buy, or they spec it to be made to their specifications…which may or may not be good. Does the pressure matter? Too high? too low?
