Default Spark Plugs

Best plugs, EVO 80ci
for a 99 evolution Softail custom 80 cubic inch.

Maybe somebody has put up a survey in the past that might be available not sure if I've seen that?

Any case , trying to sort through all the different plug varieties copper, copper core, platinum, platinum plus, iridium,,
what's your experience and thoughts on all these variations?

While there may be some minor disagreement, general consensus on the forums, in my observation (and my experience), is that there are no magic spark plugs. Use Harley plugs.

I think there was a guy that used aftermarket spark plugs, claimed he got fewer colds and lasted longer in bed, but difficult to confirm.

I used Champion plugs for years in my Evo's, never a problem.

Stock plugs or the Champion equivalent for the EVO work just fine, remember the engines were developed with a specific spark plug you won’t do any better and may do worse. Example, is the heat range and electrode design exactly the same? Extended tip is that way for a reason. If you substitute a plug with a flush tip not a wise swap, buddy did that on a boat motor and it ran terrible.

I’ve played around with different plugs over the last 25 years or so and IMO it’s hard to beat the OEM Harley plugs.
Cheap and they work well. Can’t beat that.

This topic comes up a lot. I really like and use NGK plugs, and I installed a set of NGK iridiums in my 16 FXDB, only to have the EMC pull ignition timing—-what da….. so I tried NGK regular ones , same thing happened. A couple of guys on this forum said I was full of crap. Well they probably have a different set up, don’t know ( or care). The Ion- sense these bikes are equipped with do not like any thing but OEM. You can ohm out the OEM Champions and then others only to find extreme differences ( if that means anything or not). What I do know is that the OEM Champions work right , don’t retard the timing like the NGKs did and runs just fine.
