Default wiring to my coil

Hi everyone first post here and also my first actual Harley. I was fortunate to scoop up a 96 road king and rode it home from Wyoming to Utah and about a half hour away from my destination started running bad. discovered it was my coil so went to Harley and got a new one. so where my problem lies is my old one had a 3 post on it and the one I got from Harley was only a 2 post they reassured me that it was the right coil. my question is I have 4 wires and what ones go to what post on my new coil or is it a wrong coil. I read on another few posts single fire some have 4 and three go to one post and the hot goes to the other but tried that and crank but no start. attached

a picture of how the old coil was set up.

You don’t have the stock ignition. That is a single fire coil. (3 terminals). The stock coil will be dual fire (2 terminals). You may be able to use the dual fire coil but you need to find out what ignition trigger is installed. Many aftermarket units can be programmed for either setup.
The coil in your picture appears to be a Crane single fire.
Your ignition unit will probably be located in the nose cone.

Yes. It definitely is aftermarket- you just need to know which one.

That is a very typical failure of the Crane Hi 4. Good replacements are Dyna 2000i, Ultima or the Daytona Twin tec 1005. They all are nose cone ignitions.
just to cover all bases, ensure you have good compression in both cylinders.

Your new coil is dual fire. Look up the dip switch settings for the ignition module you have and set it for dual fire.
And cap the unused signal wire, you'll more than likely be replacing the ignition module, then you can go with a Dyna 2000i.
https://blixtodunder.com/dokument/bi.../Crane_HI4.pdf
Pages 5 and 6 are the settings you need and what you presently have respectively.
If the ignition module's good set the left setting dial to 4 for the new coil and cap the white wire from the harness.

Sorry, that’s not correct. Red wire from module is power. White and black wires are the trigger wires. His was wired correctly.
