I have a power commander 5 with autotune on my 09 Nightster. Took the bike out yesterday and it ran terrible, granted I don't ride it very often( about once a month) unit is about 8 years old. Are these units prone to failure after a number of years ? Haven't checked the ground on the unit yet or disconnected it and run the bike. The bike has cams, pistons ,exhaust , and intake upgrades., so factory map is not an option. My other bike utilizes TTS mastertune but now I wonder if I should upgrade it to use on both bikes ? Any thought appreciated !

 

Don't think your power commander 5 has an auto tune. Anyway, I did have a power commander fail on me. It happened about 8 mo. after I got it. The tuner guy I use made good on it. He said it was the first one he has seen fail. When it failed bike ran like ****. I pulled it out bike ran fine.

 

Before pitching the PC5, pull/inspect the spark plugs, verify the tank has only fresh fuel, and that the system is getting proper fuel pressure. If all that looks good, use the speedometer to check for engine codes.

 

auto tune was a separate component came with wideband O2 sensors

 

bike is an 09 so it has mechanical speedo , fuel is only a month old but that did cross my mind thanks

 

Factory speedo can be used to pull codes after 2004...

 

guess I will have to find manual for power commander thanks

 

after thinking about it, when my PC failed, I pulled it out the bike ran well. Thats one way to check it is to remove it. If it runs better, it's the PC.
