Intermittent problem with 2012 FLSTN Deluxe
#31
Update time. Took the bike out for a 30 minute ride after replacing stator and voltage regulator. Ran like a champ. No problems. Took it out for a longer ride. About 45 minutes into the ride, it started doing that high revs at idle thing again. And sputtering on take off as well as minor smoking and popping. WTF!!! Reached our destination and let the bike sit for awhile. Rode it back home mostly on freeways and no problem at all. DOUBLE WTF!!!
Jim tested the voltage regulator and stator and everything is fine. Also the bike isn't throwing any codes. TRIPLE WTF!!!
Don't know where to go from here.

Agree with the above , could be an intake leak , you can check using carb clean ( correct me if I'm wrong ) at idle , if it changes , you found it . Check both intake seals and injector seals . I've also used a propane torch , pointing the tip at each seal and giving it a short blast , seemed to work just as well .
What tuner are you using ?
I feel for you , if I had one Christmas wish , it would be for you to find this issue ...

Merry Christmas to all!
We have decided to return to the bike to the friend who sold it to me. We are all in agreement this bike has some gremlins that we don't have the monetary funds to continue to deal with. After doing repeated reviews of the receipts for all the work she had done, it keeps pointing to the distinct probability this bike is just one of those rare lemons and it will continue to have gremlins no matter what we do to it.
Appreciate all of your efforts to help us resolve all the problems we've had with it.

After all this diagnostic guessing I’m suspect it’s a wiring, specifically a connector, issue. All the connectors on te bike, from front to rear, need to be inspected, pulled apart looking for a pin or socket that is not securely snapped into the connector. Sometimes the harness and it’s connectors are the culprit and replacing parts never fixes it.
Hope this helps,
Bob
